Numbers You Might Need at 3 a.m.
This page pulls together national, state, and local crisis numbers. You do not have to be
“calm” or “have it all together” to call most of these – they are designed for people who are
overwhelmed, scared, or exhausted.
Life-Threatening Emergencies
911 – Call or text if you or someone else is in immediate danger,
having a serious medical emergency, or at risk of death.
Mental Health Crisis
988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline
Call or text 988 or use online chat.
Colorado Crisis Services
Call 1-844-493-8255 or text “TALK” to 38255. They can help
with mental health, substance use, and emotional crisis.
Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault
National Domestic Violence Hotline
1-800-799-7233 (SAFE) – call, chat, or text. Helps with safety planning and shelter
referrals.
RAINN – Sexual Assault Hotline
1-800-656-4673 – connects you to local sexual assault service providers.
Veterans
Veterans Crisis Line
Call 988 and press 1, text 838255, or chat online. For veterans, service members, and
their families.
Ask VA workers or 211 about HUD-VASH, SSVF, and other housing-related programs.
Colorado 211
Dial 2-1-1 from most phones or visit the 211 website. They can help
connect you to shelter, food, housing, and other local programs.
Be ready with your general location (cross streets or bus line), household size, and any
urgent medical or safety issues.
Just Need to Hear a Human Voice
Crisis lines are not just for people “on the edge.” Many are okay with you calling when
you feel hopeless, stuck, or just need a human being to talk to for a few minutes.
You do not have to perform or say the perfect words. “I’m not okay and I don’t know what
to do” is enough.
