How to Apply for SNAP and Medicaid in Denver Without an Address

You don't need a permanent address to get SNAP food stamps or Medicaid health insurance in Colorado. Step-by-step guide for people experiencing homelessness in Denver.

By William Lodge · April 2026

One of the biggest myths about public benefits is that you need a home address to apply. You don't. Colorado law allows people experiencing homelessness to apply for and receive SNAP, Medicaid, and other benefits without a permanent address.

SNAP (Food Stamps)

SNAP provides monthly funds on an EBT card that works at grocery stores, convenience stores, and some farmers markets.

What You Need

Key Fact

Colorado does not require a permanent address for SNAP. You can use a shelter, day center, or even a street intersection as your location. Having a working phone number or mail drop is critical so the county can contact you.
