RTD basics

RTD runs the buses and trains across the metro area: local buses, regional buses, light rail and the A Line train to the airport.

  • Use the RTD Trip Planner or Google Maps transit mode to plan routes.
  • The MyRide system lets you tap a card or phone instead of buying paper tickets each time.

LiVE – income-based half-price fares

If you have low income, RTD’s LiVE program can cut your fares by about 50% on most buses and trains. You apply through Colorado’s benefit site and then get a special discount linked to your MyRide account.

  • Apply online through Colorado PEAK.
  • Look for the LiVE Income-Based Fare Discount Program on the RTD site for details.
  • If you don’t have an address, ask a day center like St. Francis Center or a case manager if you can use their mailing address.

Scooters & bikes

Companies like Lime run scooters and e-bikes around Denver. They can save time on short trips, but watch your budget and ride safely.

  • Use scooters for “last mile” rides between bus stops and shelters, not full cross-city trips.
  • Watch your app: fees can add up fast if you forget to end a ride.
  • Helmets are rare on the street, but ride slowly in traffic and watch for tracks and potholes.
